Bupropion or bupropion hydrochloride, also known formerly as amfebutamone, is a medication primarily used as an antidepressant and smoking cessation aid. It is marketed as Wellbutrin and Zyban among other trade names. It is one of the most frequently prescribed antidepressants in the United States, although in many English-speaking countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, this is an off-label use. Bupropion is taken in tablet form and is available only by prescription in most countries. Chemically, bupropion is in the aminoketone family.

* About FAERS: The FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) is used by FDA for activities such as looking for new safety concerns that might be related to a marketed product, evaluating a manufacturer's compliance to reporting regulations and responding to outside requests for information. Reporting of adverse events is a voluntary process, and not every report is sent to FDA and entered into FAERS. The FAERS database may contain duplicate reports, the report quality is variable, and many factors may influence reporting (e.g., media attention, length of time a drug is marketed, market share). For these reasons, FAERS case reports cannot be used to calculate incidence or estimates of risk for a particular product or compare risks between products.

“The side effect list pretty much says it all. The only one that I want to clarify is eye allergies. It just feels like allergies with the stinging and irritation. All of them either started or were worsened, like my arthritis, when I started this drug and worsened when my dose was increased. I'm still decreasing dosage to stop taking it, and the effects haven't gone away yet, but haven't gotten worse. I really hope it all goes away. ”
