I had eczema as an infant, and it has made a strong return 23 years later. I was first prescribed Desonide Cream 0.05%, which did absolutely nothing. I was then prescribed Clobetasol Propionate 0.05% which definitely worked, as it is highly potent and strong. However, given the potency, it is not good to use it too often as it desensitizes nerves and can result in nerve damage. My dermatologist did not tell me this information, he only advised me not to put it on my face or near my eyes. Makes sense now after doing my research. Anyway, I am also very fair skinned and have had melanoma in recent years so I of course opt for fake tanning mousse products (St.Tropez, Loving Tan, Norvell etc.) and the Clobetasol Propionate was so strong and potent it would strip any color from my skin and leave white patches. My last dermy visit thankfully I was prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream 0.1% and it is the PERFECT eczema cream for me. It reduces my flare ups and doesn't strip off my tan. It has never given me discomfort, and is thinner in texture so I can spread it around easier and I feel as if it absorbs more efficiently? I do not have to feel like I am putting some dangerous chemicals on my skin and it makes me eczema so manageable. I really hope my skin does not build up a tolerance to this medication because I want to use it for the rest of my eczema life!

As with any medical decision, be sure to work with your doctor to ensure the best choices are made for your condition.

* About FAERS: The FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) is used by FDA for activities such as looking for new safety concerns that might be related to a marketed product, evaluating a manufacturer's compliance to reporting regulations and responding to outside requests for information. Reporting of adverse events is a voluntary process, and not every report is sent to FDA and entered into FAERS. The FAERS database may contain duplicate reports, the report quality is variable, and many factors may influence reporting (e.g., media attention, length of time a drug is marketed, market share). For these reasons, FAERS case reports cannot be used to calculate incidence or estimates of risk for a particular product or compare risks between products.
